Do you know your pond oxygen level under ice or during a hot summer? The Sera O₂ Test allows you to quickly and affordably measure the oxygen content in ponds and aquariums.
Why is it important to monitor oxygen levels in water? Oxygen is vital for all living organisms in both aquariums and ponds. A sufficient oxygen level ensures a healthy and stable environment for fish, supports plant respiration, and prevents fish from suffocating due to oxygen deficiency.
Kit includes:
- 2 reagent bottles
- Measuring vial for easy water sampling and color comparison
- Color chart for result interpretation
Instructions for use:
Note: When drilling a hole in the ice to take a sample, avoid excessive stirring, as it may temporarily raise the oxygen level and give an inaccurate result.
- Rinse the measuring vial several times with the test water and fill it to the top. Dry the outside of the vial.
- Add 6 drops of the first reagent.
- Add 6 drops of the second reagent, close the vial with the cap, and shake gently.
- Compare the resulting color with the color chart by placing the vial on the chart and evaluating the color in daylight. Avoid direct sunlight.
Oxygen level interpretation and recommended actions:
- 0.5 mg/L – dangerously low – insufficient for fish
- 2.0 mg/L – severe deficiency – only suitable for hardy fish (e.g. goldfish)
- 4.0 mg/L – acceptable for most fish species (except trout)
- 6.0 – 8.0 mg/L – good oxygen level for all fish species
Care and storage:
- Thoroughly clean the measuring vial and cap with tap water before and after each use
- Close reagent bottles tightly after use and do not swap the caps
- Store the product at room temperature and protect it from light
