Water lily Firecrest is a striking water lily that captivates with its vibrant pinkish-red flowers, tinged with hints of orange. It’s the perfect plant to add warm tones and visual vibrancy to a pond. Firecrest offers a beautiful contrast with its large, dark green leaves and is well-suited for smaller ponds where it can fully display its splendor.
Flower color | pinkish-red with orange tones |
Flowers | star-shaped, 10 cm in diameter |
Leaves | dark green, rounded, up to 30 cm |
Water depth | 30 – 60 cm (at least 60 cm for overwintering) |
Note: Water lily Firecrest prefers a sunny location (at least 5 – 6 hours of direct sunlight per day). Blooms abundantly from spring to autumn. Well suited for small to medium-sized ponds. Removing wilted flowers and old leaves encourages new bud growth and helps keep the water clearer. |
Planting
Water lilies prefer rich, clay-like soil; sandy bottoms are not suitable for them. In a natural pond, they can be planted directly into the mud at a depth of at least 50 cm, where the bottom does not freeze in winter. If the pond freezes completely during the winter, the water lily should be removed in autumn along with the planting basket and placed in an appropriate wintering location. A dark cellar with low temperature is ideal. The plant should be placed in a water-filled container, its leaves removed, and regularly checked throughout the winter to ensure it has enough water, adding more as needed.
