Nymphaea Lalek is a water lily with light star-shaped flowers. The blooms range in color from pale pink to creamy. The plant has very large olive-colored leaves with brown spots. This water lily is well-suited for natural ponds.
Features
* Flower color: ranges from pale pink to creamy
* Flowers: star-shaped, with variable coloring
* Leaves: very large (about 35 cm in diameter), olive green with brown spots
* Water depth: 60 – 100 cm
* Plant spread: up to 2 m²
* Nymphaea Lalek is named in honor of Józef Franczak, pseudonym “Lalek” – the last Polish partisan, a “cursed soldier” who continued fighting against the communists long after the war. The plant prefers a sunny growing spot (at least 5–6 hours of light daily). It blooms from June to September and is well-suited for small ponds or tubs. Removing deadhead blooms and yellowed leaves helps keep the water cleaner.
Planting
Water lilies prefer rich, clay-like soil; sandy bottoms are not suitable for them. In a natural pond, they can be planted directly into the mud at a depth of at least 50 cm, where the bottom does not freeze in winter. If the pond freezes completely during the winter, the water lily should be removed in autumn along with the planting basket and placed in an appropriate wintering location. A dark cellar with low temperature is ideal. The plant should be placed in a water-filled container, its leaves removed, and regularly checked throughout the winter to ensure it has enough water, adding more as needed.
