Nymphaea Escarboucle is an old hardy water lily. It has a reputation as “the reddest of reds” (most water lilies classified as “red” are actually more pink or fuchsia in tone). This water lily is very large, making it ideal for medium to large ponds. Even late in the evening, when other lilies are already closed , Escarboucle remains open – making it suitable even for slightly shaded locations.

Features
* Flower color: intensely red
* Flowers: 14 cm, pleasantly fragrant
* Leaves: 16 – 20 cm, green
* Plant spread: 2 m2
* Water depth: 30 – 90 cm
* Nymphaea Escarboucle prefers a sunny growing spot (at least 5–6 hours of light daily). It blooms from June to September and is well-suited for small ponds or tubs. Removing deadhead blooms and yellowed leaves helps keep the water cleaner.

Planting
Water lilies prefer rich, clay-like soil; sandy bottoms are not suitable for them. In a natural pond, they can be planted directly into the mud at a depth of at least 50 cm, where the bottom does not freeze in winter. If the pond freezes completely during the winter, the water lily should be removed in autumn along with the planting basket and placed in an appropriate wintering location. A dark cellar with low temperature is ideal. The plant should be placed in a water-filled container, its leaves removed, and regularly checked throughout the winter to ensure it has enough water, adding more as needed.
